Happy Black History Month
This Black History Month, CURB’s Executive Director, Amber-Rose Howard, led a political education session grounding us in the definition of Black Power, sharing the quote in the graphic above from Kwame Ture, a revolutionary activist in the Civil Rights & Pan-African Movements.
Amber-Rose’s reflections:
“Black History Month is about Black identity in its totality, honoring the magic, the elegance, and the strength of our culture and centering Black Power in its real political definition. In order for us to build the solidarity we are all looking for, we need to address anti-Blackness in our communities. If we do that we bust white supremacy wide open. White supremacy does not exist without anti-Blackness. That’s why Black folks call for Black Power.”
May these words continue to guide us in this political moment and inform our coalition’s work to close carceral institutions, reduce the number of people caged in our state, and shift resources toward areas that create healthy, stable and thriving communities.
Onward, together.
