ICYMI: As part of final 2023-24 budget negotiations, CDCr was required to produce a detailed capacity report informing the public and legislature of which prisons should be next to close in exchange for @cagovernor’s $360 million San Quentin construction project. The preliminary version of this report, released months ago, had ‘glaring inadequacies’ and was excoriated by CURB in a public statement linked in our bio.
Amidst a projected $68 Billion deficit going into the 2024-25 fiscal year, CDCR’s continued evasion of responsibility and failure to provide necessary information makes our calls to #CloseCAPrisons even more urgent. Stay tuned for a digital action next week demanding more prisons named for closure in the January 2024-25 proposed budget and an emphasis placed on #CareNotCages.
