Write a Letter to the Editor: Justice for People Serving LWOP

Take Action | Apr 20, 2024

Submit a letter to the editor urging justice for people serving LWOP (life without parole). Use this toolkit to make your voice heard: tinyurl.com/SDUTlett

LWOP sentences are racist, inhumane, costly, and do not contribute to public safety:

-Life Without Parole sentences are handed out disproportionately to Black and Latinx youth.

-80% of people sentenced to LWOP in CA are people of color. The most common age of people sentenced to LWOP is 19.

-Between 2000 & 2017, the number of incarcerated people in CA aged 50 or older more than quintupled, from 4% to 23% of the prison population.

Everyone, especially those with extreme sentences who have functioned as community mentors, deserves to have hope. Submit your letter today!
