Urgent action to protect imprisoned people from climate hazards
URGENT ACTION TO PROTECT IMPRISONED PEOPLE FROM CLIMATE HAZARDS‼️
Take Quick Action TODAY: bit.ly/budgetaction25
This Thursday, May 8th at 9:30 AM (or upon adjournment of Floor Session), Senate Budget Subcommittee 5 on Public Safety will be discussing the Office of the Inspector General’s recent audit finding that CDCR is dangerously unprepared to evacuate and protect incarcerated individuals in the case of emergency.
Tell legislators to follow the recommendations shared in the OIG report and the @ellabakercenter’s 2023 Hidden Hazards Report to:
-Reduce the prison population
-Strengthen & implement emergency plans
-Increase oversight of CDCR’s emergency preparedness processes
-Prioritize prisons for closure that are vulnerable to climate disaster
There are multiple ways to take action:
Take 1 minute to send letters to the Budget Subcommittees on Public Safety and Climate, telling them to implement recommendations named in these reports and protect incarcerated Californians
Join CURB coalition members at the Capitol to give live public comment on May 8th at 9:30 AM, in State Capitol Room #112. DM us if you can make it!!
