The May Revised State Budget, released last week, threatens to increase CDCr’s budget by an unacceptable $1 Billion compared to last year’s enacted budget, and it completely neglects the opportunity to close additional prisons, which are a proven source of savings that are being disappeared back into CDCr’s bloated budget.
While stuffing CDCr’s pockets, the May Revise budget neglects needed investments in housing, Medi-Cal, survivor services, community-based reentry, and other vital programs that are at risk. We will not stand for this abuse of our resources! It’s time to find community needs not excess prison capacity.
Before the 2026-27 Final State Budget is finalized and released, we must make it loud & clear that we demand prison closure, redirection of funds from prisons into communities, and release of our community members!
