THIS IS AN EMERGENCY: We call on city officials to do everything in their ability to stop the reopening of CA City Correctional Facility and @cagovernor @gavinnewsom to act urgently to permanently shutter California’s remaining closed prisons currently at risk and draining critical dollars that should be invested in our communities.

From the article: “US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has partnered with CoreCivic, a private prison contractor that operates several facilities in California, to transform a shuttered 2,500-bed prison in California City into the state’s largest immigrant detention center… This week, people packed a city council meeting to voice their feelings in California City… people traveled from as far as Los Angeles to express opposition.”
