The Close California Prisons Campaign, anchored by CURB, is a growing coalition of racial, economic justice, gender, and environmental organizations anchored by CURB. This campaign is working to close 10 prisons in California by 2025, starting with the California Rehabilitation Center (CRC) in Norco, CA. Together the campaign has closed 3 prisons, produced groundbreaking reports like the Prison Closure Roadmap, supported legislation, and built people power across the state.

In recent years, the overall state prison population has safely and significantly declined. However, prison capacity reductions have not kept pace with the shrinking prison population. As of January 31, 2024, state prisons had 13,211 empty beds. We know prison closures are both necessary and possible AND that closures, rehabilitation, and public safety can and must coexist.

If you are an organization wanting to get more involved with CURB work, join campaign spaces, or an individual wanting to take action, this webinar is a great place to plug-in!

With attempts like the #CAModel and initiatives like #Prop36 on this November’s ballot, this is an urgent & vital time to get involved to protect our progress.

We hope to see you there (on zoom)!
