Drop LWOP- the time is now!

Dear Supporter,

Governor Brown has several bills on his desk that speak to California voters’ commitment to move away from punitive punishments and closer to community based car, as a model for public safety. Included in that stack of criminal justice reform legislation is SB 394 which moves to end life without the possibility of parole (LWOP) as a sentence for youth.

We take this victory as a step in the right direction and are asking you to join with California Coalition for Women Prisoners (CCWP) in a statewide campaign to DROP LWOP and secure sentence commutations for all those serving Life Without the Possibility of Parole (LWOP). LWOP is an inhumane sentence which denies people the possibility to rehabilitate and move towards reaching their highest potential.

RISE Act passes! On to the Governor’s desk!

Dear Supporter,

Congratulations! California has successfully passed the biggest sentencing reform in the history of the California State Legislature. SB 180 moves out of the Assembly on a 41 to 25 vote and on to the governor’s desk to be signed.

Much appreciation to every person who took the time to make calls, send in letters, forward emails and activate their social media platforms to help advocate for the Repeal of Ineffective Sentencing Enhancements! Special thanks to each amazing organizer who has been so dedicated to this campaign: ACLU of Northern California, California Public Defenders Association, Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, Drug Policy Alliance, Ella Baker Center for Human Rights, Friends Committee on Legislation of California, Legal Services for Prisoners with Children and of course, Senator Holly J. Mitchell! (click and like their FB pages-stay connected with us!)
