Dear Supporter,
Our coalition has a different vision for California, a vision rooted in liberation. We envision changes that will bring people home, dismantle systems of imprisonment, and support true community health and prosperity.
With your support, we look forward to making this vision a reality.
In 2016 we have grown stronger than ever. This year Governor Brown proposed $270 million in jail construction funding through our state budget. We made our voices heard by demanding that our decision makers say NO MORE to jail funding. Our people power persuaded the Senate and Assembly Budget Subcommittees to reject the state funding for new jails. Unfortunately, the Governor signed slipped in the jail funding in the final budget, showing support for more incarceration.
We demonstrated the power of unity.
Brown’s vision expands our carceral state, failing California’s low-income communities of color. This vision is rooted in imprisoning our children and our future. This vision perpetuates the endless cycle of incarceration which leaves our communities in social and economic crisis.
Do we want this the vision for California? Join us to sustain CURB’s vision today!
CURB’s vision is redirecting funding from law enforcement into community-based programs that prioritize holistic care, dignity for all, and empowering those most impacted by the criminal justice system. At CURB, we are fighting toward creating an equal and just society for all by fighting prison and jail expansion in California. We are excited to continue advocating for policies that will return people to their families, from sentencing and parole reform to pushing local decarceration strategies in counties throughout the state.
CURB is a coalition of freedom fighters, as Tash Nguyen, a member of CURB from the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights tells us, “I owe my deep commitment in fighting against the jail industrial complex to CURB and am so blessed to be a part of such an incredible network of freedom fighters.”
Will you join us in our fight for freedom?
We can’t do this work without you and our members. Learn about our vision and what our members are saying about CURB here.
