Dear Supporter,
Thanks to our incredible people power, San Francisco is on its way to closing one of its jails. Now, we need to make sure the City continues down a path to a more liberated future for all of its residents. We must continue to reduce incarceration and focus on meeting the true needs of our communities.
A city working group is now developing a plan to close the jail at 850 Bryant St. Although several members of the No New SF Jail Coalition are members of the working group, there is also a heavy presence of police, sheriffs, and prosecutors — and we need your voice to make sure our message is heard!
Our next meeting is this Friday. Will you join us?
At last month’s meeting, there was a clear need to integrate an understanding of the ways policing and jailing target, traumatize, and oppress poor people of color. Let’s make sure the work group prioritizes addressing the root causes of arrest and imprisonment, rather than just tinkering with the way they happen.
Help us develop a plan for a brighter future for San Francisco:
In solidarity,
The No New SF Jail Coalition
