Dear Supporter,
These next few weeks will be busy for Los Angeles and we hope that you will stand with us as we unite for Mother’s Day and against expansion at every level.
The Los Angeles County budget is getting closer to completion and we need to amp up our efforts to demand reduction and communty solutions, not more expansion.
1) Join us and other members of LA No More Jails on Mother’s Day! We will be at the Women’s Jail speaking out against expansion, police brutality, and unjust immigration policies. We will also have a spokesperson training to get ready for the budget hearing on Wednesday.
Where: Lynwood Women’s Jail (11705 Alameda Street, Lynwood, 90059)
When: Sunday, May 10th from 9am-12pm
2) We need to pack the room on Wednesday! We have 182 people confirmed to speak out against more money for cops and jails in this year’s Los Angeles County Budget. We will have a press conference and participate in public comment.
Where: Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration (500 W. Temple Street, Los Angeles, 90012)
When: Wednesday, May 13th at 8:30am
Next week, we must demand that this year’s budget does not contain more money for jail expansion.
After Wednesday we will know where our Board of Supervisors stand and will focus on a week of action to impact the County Budget. We will keep you posted on action steps so that you can participate in the week of action.
In solidarity,
Diana Zuñiga
Interim Statewide Coordinator
Californians United for a Responsible Budget
P.S. Save these dates too! Thursday, May 15th at 12pm we will be participating in a press conference in response to the State Corrections Budget in Los Angeles (300 S.Spring Street). And we just found out that the LA County Board of Supervisors will be hearing a status report on the jail plan on Tuesday, May 19th!
