Yesterday, in a 3-0 vote with 2 Supervisors abstaining the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors decided to enter into a contract with the City of Taft and transfer 512 LA County prisoners at a cost of $11 million dollars annually.
A total of $10 million of the funding this year will come from unspent AB 109 money that can be used for alternatives to incarceration.
This is unnecessary use of community funds for jail expansion.
Please come out!
1) Come out tomorrow, Thursday (Sept. 26) at 8:30am. We will be holding a press conference with advocates in Los Angeles to voice opposition to this decision before the Little Hoover Commission’s Public Hearing on Criminal Justice Sentencing. Following the press conference we will attend the public hearing that will talk about the status of criminal justice in Los Angeles County
Location: Ronald Reagan State Building Auditorium, 300 South Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA
2) Call the Board of Supervisors.
