Thanks to those of you that took action to let the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) to know that we will continue to fight to bring our loved ones home. Our next action to expand earned time credits and impact the emergency regulations is focused on the #CABudget process.
On Thursday, the Senate Budget Committee will be discussing Proposition 57 and the implementation of earned time credit expansion. Several community members will be present to share our recommendations and demand that our state elected officials listen to our call to action.
We still have time to impact CDCR’s emergency regulations to expand earned time credits. And the state budget proposes to allocate $5.7 million to implement CDCR’s regulations.
The budget process will continue and after Thursday’s hearing the Assembly Budget Committee will discuss the same issue on Monday. So please be on the lookout for the next action.
CURB is committed to expanding earned time credits, reconnecting families, and envisioning a stronger California. We are also working on the RISE Act this year and would love your support in passing this legislation that would repeal the sentencing enhancement for prior drug convictions.
Let’s dismantle this system together!
In love and solidarity,
Amber Rose, Diana and Ivette
